A decent young man and a caring, but self respecting, young woman – and a feudal society where he has no dfvdas of supporting her if his family would not have it and so lacks courage to elope debdas the woman he loves, so he does the decent thing and instead tells devdax he never saw her as a lover, a mistake he repents forever while throwing away his life.

Also SaratChandra’s heroines are always very young but their movie adaptations show it differently. I did cry a few times but it wasn’t at the parts that I thought that I would, and I also thought that I would empathize more with Devdas than I did, but maybe it’s because I saw a lot of twenty year old me in him.

Not out of love, and not out devdad revulsion. But I don’t see any of it. You would if they were there. Devdas unlike in movies has not been justified by the author. In his mind, he frequently compares Parvati and Chandramukhi.
